Hey there,
Let's talk about an exhausting lie you're telling yourself: "I need to be professional to be taken seriously."
Wrong! Think about the businesses that you follow online. Are they all "professional" ones? Or are they a little weird, a little nerdy? Because we would bet big money that it's the second one you throw your money at.
Buckle up because this story is WILD!
This woman went on a Hinge date and she showed up dressed as the Lorax. (You know, the orange fuzzy dude who speaks for the trees.)
Her date? A realtor who immediately scoffed at what she was wearing!
(First red flag. Never scoff at The Lorax.)
So she shot back: "I could sell one of your units dressed like this."
He laughed and bet her $100,000 she couldn't.
THE BET WAS ON!
She held an open house dressed as the Lorax and the internet showed up. Hundreds of people toured the house. Three actually submitted applications to learn more. Did she sell the unit? Not yet but you know what happened instead?
She started her own real estate company!
Why? Because she realized people were more trusting of The Lorax than a dude in a suit.
Notice that she didn't succeed by being "professional"?
The Lorax Lady didn't wear a blazer and sensible heels to hold an open house.
She leaned into her weird! She embraced the quirky parts! She showed up as herself (to her date AND her open house).
And guess what happened? She built a fan base AND a business.
"What if my weird is TOO weird?! What if I lose clients?!"
Here's the truth bomb: The people who think you're "too weird" were NEVER going to be your super fans anyway.
They were gonna be mediocre customers who complained constantly. So good riddance if they leave.
But the people who vibe with your weird?
Those are the ones who'll:
Quick reality check: Are you showing up as the sanitized "professional" version of yourself? Or the REAL you?
Think about the parts of yourself you're hiding because you think they're "unprofessional!"
Are you:
That's the thing that'll make you memorable instead of forgettable.
Write it down!
Then figure out how to show it in your business! Because somewhere out there? Your future super fans are waiting for The Lorax version of you!
Not the boring beige version!
Stay curious!
